About

Wendy is a natural teacher of yoga with over 25 years of teaching experience. Her love for movement came at a young age from gymnastics to snowboarding with many other sports in between. Injuries were always a part of her life, as was learning to heal from them. Yoga was a great friend and tool to help with the healing process. After retiring for professional snowboarding, Wendy pursued her love for teaching and Yoga. While she is originally from Whistler Canada, she has spent many years in the United States and now has resided in Hong Kong for over 16 years. Since moving to Hong Kong, she has proudly worked with Pure Yoga Hong Kong since 2006.

When she is not teaching and studying yoga, Wendy, her husband and 8 year old boy are out chasing waves, snow and exploring the great outdoors.

In the last decade Wendy has become increasingly interested in the power of breath. Understanding that there was more to it than was what was taught in her yoga trainings. She branched out and shifted her perspective towards breath-work studies with more scientific backing to what is actually happening when we breathe, how it affects our health and how the ancient practice of Pranayama works in modern times.

Wendy believes that many of us are not breathing as nature intended as we are caught in upper chest stress breathing, even in our yoga practice. This ‘over breathing’ has created an imbalance in our bodies chemistry and our overall health. Through healthy curiosity, self observation or Svadhyaya, we can start to be aware of our breathing and movement habits, allowing us to discover which ones suit ourselves best.

Wendy’s classes provide a platform for this self study, giving students the tools to help listen to their bodies, discover what they need, learn to strengthen, stretch and heal. Her Vinyasa based Asan classes are a blend of breath work and mindfulness, leaving one inspired, grounded and at peace. She also teaches Pranayama and meditation classes.

Wendy teaches in person and online weekly, doing workshops, training and sometimes retreats. In addition to her current classes, Wendy has taught many Yoga Surf, Ayurveda and Detox retreats around Asia. She has also led many successful programs like the 40 Days to Personal Revolutions, Vinyasa, Yin and Yin Yang Teacher training, breath-work and Pranayama training.

“Don’t let the gorgeous, curly-headed exterior distract you from the depth and integrity of the yogic teachings you can receive from Wendy. She has taken her decades of study and practice (in a variety of the schools of yoga) and synthesised them into a teaching style that is firmly rooted in tradition yet accessible and powerful to all levels of practitioners. Like all great teachers, Wendy never stops studying the art and philosophy of yoga, and her recent expansion into the teaching of functional breath is a welcome addition to her repertoire. Her instructions are clear and concise, with easy to understand modifications, that can help you find YOUR lifetime yoga practice.”
